Showa Kinen Park is a 10 minute walk from our house. I bought an annual pass therefore Dash and I spend two days a week on average exploring the nooks and crannies. The park is HUGE and we have not even begun to scratch it's surface. Here are a few of the sights/offerings we have found:
1) Interesting plants along walking paths.
2) Play areas that make you wish you were a kid again. The area with the dragons has one that produces 'smoke'. How cool is that?
3) Flower Hill was covered with Cosmos when we first started exploring.

But, within a week they had plowed it under. I am curious to see what will grow there next. Either way, it's a great view of Tachikawa. You can also see the park train on the road at the bottom of the hill. Yes, the park is so big some people ride the train to get from one area to another.

4) Bamboo groves (small ones)

5) Ponds with fish and bubbling brooks. I need to spend some more time exploring these areas still.

6) Blooming trees. I have been surprised how many tress are blooming given how chilly it has been.
7) Fall colors
We have only explored a small corner of the park so far. I can't wait to see what else it has to offer. It's a very peaceful setting. A group does morning yoga in a big open field and I routinely see people painting. I stumbled across a man playing a musical instrument in the middle of the woods once. At the north end of the park is a lake with rental boats available. There is a Japanese Garden, a water park, a tea house and so much more!
