I have learned there is a 'season' for everything and now it is hydrangea season. After perusing the options to make the most of it we decided to go see Minamisawa Ajisai Mountain, aka "hydrangea mountain". Ajisai is the Japanese word for hydrangea. The story is the first 20 hydrangeas were planted to brighten the land owner's path to his parent's grave sites. Now there are now approximately 10,000 hydrangeas on the mountain. I never knew so many varieties existed. There are several walking trails throughout the forest and it really was quite pretty to see all of the blossoms as we explored the paths. Now I will (mostly) stop the commentary and let you peruse the pictures.

There were posts painted like gnomes all over the mountain.
